Steve Aoki
Steve Aoki was born on November 30,
1977, in Miami, Florida. American electro-house musician as well as record
producer, D.J. Music executive. He is the third of Chizuru and Rocky Aoki's
children. His father, a former wrestler, was also the co-founder of the
restaurant chain Benihana. He has two older siblings that include sister Kana
who is usually known as Grace by her middle name Grace, as well as brother
Kevin (owner of Doraku Sushi). His half-sister is Devon Aoki, a model and
actress. He was born in Newport Beach, California & graduated from
Newport Harbor High School in 1995. There he was a player on the team for
badminton on the varsity. He went on to UC Santa Barbara, graduating w/ 2 B.A.
He graduated with two degrees in sociology, and another in feminist studies.
While in college, he created DIY recordings and held underground concerts out
of his Biko room at the Santa Barbara Student Housing Cooperative. It was a
concert venue and the room became known as The Pickle Patch. He was active with
student activism and created a Revolutionary Anti-Imperialist League section on
campus. He had also started an independent record label when he was in the 20s.
It was called Dim Mak and was named for his childhood idol Bruce Lee. In March
of 2010, he came out with I'm in the House, a collaboration w/ the Zuper Blahq,
a pseudonym of the Black Eyed Peas singer will.i.am. It made it to the No. 29
in the U.K. Singles Chart in the first week of its release. The track climbed
to the top 5 in both the U.K. Indie Chart and the U.K. Dance Chart. The song
was shown on MTV's Jersey Shore, as well as the feature film Piranha and the
trailer for Think Like A Man. In a May 2010 interview with HitQuarters Lucas
Secon, the producer-songwriter, confirmed that he and Rivers Cuomo had just
worked on an album. Pollstar named him the highest-grossing North America dance
artist from shows in 2012. He has collaborated with artists like Iggy Azalea,
Afrojack, LMFAO, Linkin Park, Will.i.am, Lil Jon, Blink-182, Laidback Luke,
BTS, Louis Tomlinson, Rise Against, Vini Vici & Fall Out Boy. He's
famous for remixes of artists such as Kid Cudi
